Just about all ESCs with a built in BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) will only support 2-3 servos at flight battery voltages of anything higher than 3S (11.1v) Lithium or 12 Cells Ni-xx. This Switch-Mode UBEC is designed to replace the need (and weight) of a receiver battery providing power to run the receiver and several servos.
Any 'OPTO' or 'OPTO-ISOLATED ESC' will need a receiver battery to power the servos. This UBEC provides power to the receiver (without the need for a receiver battery) as well as supplying power to run several servos. This UBEC is an advanced switching regulator, features over-current and over-heat protection.
The comparison of a linear BEC and switch-mode BEC: When using a lithium battery pack more than 3S (11.1v), a switch-mode BEC has much higher efficiency than linear BEC (often found in ESCs).
This UBEC can also be used on ESCs which have a BEC fitted - you must disable the BEC first, do this by simply removing the 'RED' wire from your ESC 3-lead plug. Then wire in the UBEC to safely power up to 8-10 Standard Size Servos!
A brilliant device which enables the use of several servos without the need of a receiver battery - saving weight and money!
We use these in our own models on 6V with Spektrum radios and can confirm they perform very well in all applications!
